Craniosacral Therapy
In a human body, few structures have more influence on total health than the nervous system, and the main component impacting the nervous system is the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system consists of the soft tissues and the craniosacral fluid which provide protection to the brain and the spinal cord.
Reduce Stress and Strain
The human body goes through a lot of stress and strain every minute and keeps adjusting to this to maintain its balance. But there comes a stage when the tissues start tightening and affecting the brain and spinal cord. This results in the malfunctioning of the nervous system which ultimately affects all other functions in the body.
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
This tension of the brain and spinal-cord can be released with the help of craniosacral therapy, which is a gentle-touch approach that facilitates self-correction in the body. The therapist investigates the internal environment of the body by lightly touching it at various points and then performs certain techniques to help body regain required correction.
This technique frees the central nervous system to function at its fullest capacity thereby allowing pain removal, strengthening the immune system and improves overall health and well-being. Persons of all ages including infants can be treated with the help of craniosacral therapy.
Discovery/Development of Craniosacral Therapy
In the early 19th century Dr. William Sutherland first discovered craniosacral bone movement and sensed that there was a “power” which generated corrections from inside his clients’ bodies without the influence of external forces applied by him as a therapist.
From 1975 Dr. John E Upledger set up a team of professionals at Michigan State University to investigate the pulse he had observed and to study further Sutherland’s theory of cranial bone movement. He later developed his own treatment style called craniosacral therapy.
Conditions Craniosacral Therapy Can Help:
Craniosacral Therapy improves health and well-being by taking care of many conditions including pain, diseases and malfunctioning that include:
What to Expect
In a craniosacral therapy session, the patient remains fully clothed as he/she relaxes on the treatment table.
The therapist starts by gently touching different parts of the body to check the rhythm of fluid that is flowing around the central nervous system. The therapist will be able to locate the source of the dysfunction through weak fluid flow or incorrect tissue motion. Gentle manual techniques will be applied to normalize those tight spots to improve the function of the central nervous system. A typical therapy session can last an hour.
Craniosacral Therapy and Other Modalities:
Craniosacral Therapy can be very easily mixed with other modalities like Massage and Reiki to have powerful outcomes.
